Well i lied.

I have been watching the same hole for 6 days now!!!!. Thought i was off it but i was wrong.

Ballet watching day

Usually when Rachel does ballet the moms don't say in the hall where the girls dance we have to wait at a room in the back and all try peer through a tiny windo to see them dancing, but once a term there is a watching day where the parents can watch. So Sarah and I went to the watching day on Monday. It was so so cute.

Most important job in the world.

Lets start at the begining. Most of you know We(me and the missus) now live in the UK and most of you know I work offshore in the North sea ( actually north atlantic west of the shetland islands) but who cares about that. Now I am currently working on a big vessel called the Schiehallion which is Big FPSO( stands for a thing that gets oil out the ground makes it into something and sends it on its way), genius and big i might add again, over 240 plus meters long. BIG.



So now on this vessel there is a shortage of bed space( about140 beds) so if you get on here you know that you are needed and that you have an important role to fill. mine just happens to be looking after people who work off the ground, access, anyway if they mess up or something goes pear shaped i have to rescue them, to cut it short i would be responsable for the safe return to tera firma, or the steel floor grating out here. Now i have been around the world.(well more than the average bloke out there) and this job is as important to me as any job should be, give it your all and get your numbers,(cash) and come back and give it all and get your numbers and so on and so on.



So I work a 2 week on and 2 week off rotation which means I in theory have 6 months holiday a year. So when you off you supposed to rest and when you on you are supposed to work. Well I have been back out here since wednesday afternoon ready to go and here it is, my ultimate job, safety stand man which is a big word for someone who sits out on the green deck(lowest deck before the tanks, it used to be green, maybe when it was constructed but I think they give it a good scrub with crude oil on the odd ocassion just to keep it dark and gloomy.) and watches a hole all day, yes there are people in the tank but it is bigggg and you cant even see them when they are in, all you have is an air horn like the football fanatics use in case the radio the tank entry team has fails and a gas monitor in case of a gas leak, it is important as you are there link to the outside world and would raise any alarms that needed raising. Don't get me wrong but here goes, after all my rambling on. two things have come from this exercise which has been on going now for 4 days( yup i watch the hole for plus minus 8 hours a day to make sure it is still there and it still is). And this is the reason for all this and remember it is not moaning.

1. I started reading a fiction book, never read one of these in my life and yes I binned it as soon as I stopped watching my hole today, thinkI was a third of the way through it, weird that people can think up stuff like that. and
2. This cool picture taken by 1 of my team mates using a thermal camera. Yes this is the only reason I wrote all the junk above so that I had a reason to put this image on the blog for the fun of it.( I have includded a normal pic below so you can actually see what is happening. and yes please note the hole (hatch) I watched so well for the last 4 days.

No moaning here,I get paid to sit on my butt and read, granted it is not the middle of starbucks but heyI get paid to sit around and look hot while watching a hole.( although as you can see or maybe not I have 3 pairs of gloves on, a thermal top, t-shirt, overall, storm jacket, wool hat, and all the other usual stuff and it is cold).

Oh and i got a radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Work is back to normal tommorrow I hope.(sorry about any bad spelling)
